HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The De Jelin company was created in 1989 by J. M. Jenicot for the purpose of developing and manufacturing electromedical devices.
One year later, the company had the opportunity to initiate the production of household appliances, a previous specialty of the company’s founder, who has been committed to this activity since 1974.
In 1994, after the development of the first fryer equipped with a filtering cover allowing a COMPLETE washing in a dishwasher, the company changed its name to De Jelin and extended its activity to the European market.
As for production, it grew by integrating manufacturing resources for sheet metal work, stamp printing, screen printing, electrochemical etching, cabling and since 2001 a plastic injection department. Today, concerted efforts are being committed for automation by integrating robots and handlers to maintain a control of the production cost. The latest industrial investment involved the purchase of a TRUMPF marking laser.
For the last few years De Jelin has only produced top-of-the-range fryers. These products are sold exclusively by the European household appliances leaders, such as Bosch, Siemens, AEG, Kenwood … , so 100% of the production is exported throughout Europe. Today, De Jelin is developing its own trademark and manufactures mid- and top-of-the-range products, such as professional and household fryers, heaters et steamers made essentially of stainless steel. A second leaning toward a production line exclusively oriented toward induction is today the spearhead in the evolutions in this high technology sector. De Jelin currently sells on the market not only induction hot plates intended for professionals, but also like for appliances in the "steam" sector appliances intended for the household sector. As a result, HiLight vitroceramic cooktops applying radiant heating with innovative functions and induction cooktops exploiting the developments made in the Pro sector are made available to the mass public and especially to fine cuisine amateurs. More than 90 % of the production is exported from Ireland to Austria.
In May 2006, De Jelin is pushing ahead its presence on the major export markets. The De Jelin trademark products are consequently also present in Canada. Other countries are following, ensuring the durability of the industrial activity in Belgium.
OUR ACTIVITIES
De Jelin is committed to the following activities :
Research and Development :
De Jelin has always designed itself all its products - initially by its own means and then by creating a network of complementary companies. This network comprises independent DESIGNER offices, an industrial design & engineering department and two companies for the production of plastic injection molds and sheet metal working tools, and works also in collaboration with the Metal Production Research Center (CRIF) under AGORIA for the design of stereolithographic prototypes, an occasional aid in the cutting-edge fields and in the technological watch. This network’s effectiveness is reinforced by applied research carried out within the company by its in-house personnel using high-performance 3D design software and communication resources such as the Internet which have added flexibility and significantly reduced product development and launching deadlines. The company has a very well equipped laboratory to ensure the R&D and quality control of the manufactured products. So, the company’s image was dramatically reinforced. Two of our customers who wanted to become true partners are also investing themselves in the products made by the company, where engineering has served as a counterpart to the contractually-binding exclusivity of production. Today, the research conducted at De Jelin is concentrated on "soft cooking" units respecting the nutritional values of the foods and on cooking units based on the induction principle with multiple applications oriented toward restaurant professionals ; and, its novelties in household applications guarantee high quality for experienced customers. During these last few years De Jelin has filed many patents and the most significant are : The OPS (Overflowing Protection System), which prevents the risk of oil overflowing in fryers. The steam basket equipped with a HEAT ACCUMULATOR AND A PERIPHERAL FLOW SYSTEM. This exclusive basket allows cooking fish or other foods by channeling the fish’s milt flows or the cooking juices directly from the basket to the water tank or a juice recoverer without returning to the foods contained in the other baskets in the lower levels. The heat accumulator is loaded with caloric heat during the cooking and then restores this heat to the foods when served on the table or in a caterer’s buffet. Excluded : all electric cords or candles. After 20 minutes, the foods are still at a temperature of 60°C, and so the last served plates can be offered and eaten with the same pleasure.
Production :
Today production is omnipresent, so human resources can be optimally used in the manufacture of short- to mid-run series. Since 1998, when the ERP control software was installed, it has allowed keeping a reduced, high-performance management staff. This new ERP software has optimized administrative management and the MRP integrated in this software is providing us with a high-performance purchasing and production follow-up management. We normally deliver orders based on 80- to 3000-unit series and more made exclusively on orders for the OEM sector. Component standardization and the management system allow us to fulfill these orders at a good profitability level.
Management :
The company is directed by the appointed administrator and by a sales manager responsible for customer relations, order follow-up, billing and the "marketing watch". An administrative manager tracks purchases, makes out schedules and ensures production follow-up. In production, an assembly line manager supervises the production’s organization "on the spot" assisted by the foreman for maintenance, plastic injection and warehousing. The personnel’s multi-functionality ensures a high competitiveness in our production.
Products :
Since 1994, the company has been concentrating its development resources essentially on mid- and top-of-the –range products mainly by combining stainless steel with high-quality thermoplastics. Today, we should not overlook the fact that middle European, Eastern and Asian producers are improving their level of quality and occupy not only the basic products segment, but also more and more the mid-range segment, whose quantities on the market represent a more significant figure than 3 years ago. Today our objective is to orient ourselves toward the high-tech and niche markets where the demand of our partners is real and well targeted. This demand is in perfect harmony with our production means, our assets to handle small- and mid-run series, our flexibility to meet 10- to 30-day delivery deadlines, enabling us to ensure for our customers ongoing supplies, while limiting finished product stocks to a 1- to 2-month horizon.
